Hyotan-tsugi
Hyotan-tsugi, the patched pig/gourd/dummy thing that shows up in all of
Osamu Tezuka's work. This is actually a butternut squash, which are hard
to carve because they are not hollow. Patches go all the way around the
squash.
Ivan Karelin
This year I did the entire Hero Team from Tiger and Bunny. Here's Ivan,
the Japanophile.
Pao-Lin Huang
Pao-Lin, the Bruce Lee cosplayer
Antonio Lopez
Antonio, an actual Latino in anime
Keith Goodman
Keith, a guy named Keith
Nathan Seymour
Nathan, the anime RuPaul
Karina Lyle
Karina, the idol singer
Barnaby Brooks Jr.
Barnaby, the guy with glasses
Kotetsu T. Kaburagi
Kotetsu, the guy with a hat. This and Karina are my favorites. In
general all the Tiger and Bunny ones turned out fantastic.
Hi no Tori
Hi no Tori, Tezuka's phoenix. Wings all done with Japanese carving
knives. Took about three hours.
